The average price per gallon of gas in the Gainesville area and statewide went up one cent over last week. According to AAA’s weekly gas report released Thursday, cost at the pump went from last week’s $3.45 to $3.46 in the Gainesville market. In Florida, the price increased from $3.39 to $3.40, and nationally the price dipped from $3.48 to $3.45. “With Tropical Storm Debby drifting up the I-95 corridor to visit the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the threat to Gulf Coast oil production and refining is over,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in the press release. “But tensions in the Middle East and some overseas economic uncertainty may mitigate any drop in oil prices.” Mainstreet does not have a paywall, but pavement-pounding journalism is not free.
